“Non puoi dirmi di no” è il nome dell’EP di Sam More e J Daw, uscito lo scorso 17 Novembre. La raccolta di 6 tracce è la prima parte di un progetto creato nell’ultimo anno dal rapper Sam More e dal produttore J Daw.
Qualche mese fa l’Ep era stato anticipato dall’uscita del singolo da cui prende il nome: “Non puoi dirmi di no”, e dal relativo videoclip.

Tutte le tracce, ad eccezione di “Bitch Moves / Tagliagole”, sono state prodotte da J Daw. Il DJ, beatmaker e turntablist italiano di base ad Amsterdam, con i suoi campioni, ha cucito un sound fortemente distinto dal gusto dell’Hip Hop classico.
Il progetto è stato anticipato anche da un altro video-singolo, quello di “Bitch Moves / Tagliagole” ( prod. Exil Press); il quale, tramite le sue immagini, scena dopo scena ci trasporta nel mood della traccia.
In occasione dell’uscita di questo nuovo Ep ho scambiato qualche parola con Sam More, qui di seguito trovate la trascrizione.

Ciao Sam, il tuo primo album ufficiale “Tra Pazzia e Ragione” era una raccolta di brani composti anche ad anni di distanza tra loro.
Com’è invece questo nuovo EP? Come e perché è nato?
” “Tra Pazzia e Ragione” é stato un viaggio individuale; in cui il totale coinvolgimento dei producer, che hanno aderito al progetto, é stato ostacolato da una barriera linguistica, non essendo loro di nazionalità italiana. La mia collaborazione con J Daw é stata invece arricchita da uno scambio di input e di idee provenienti da entrambi i lati; creando una visione comune, che solidifichiamo costantemente con ogni sessione in studio, e facendo sì che la nostra musica ci rappresenti a pieno a lavoro finito.
Il fattore di tempo che hai menzionato é sicuramente una differenza lampante tra i due progetti. “Tra Pazzia e Ragione” é stato affiancato da un processo di crescita personale e consolidamento della mia identitá artistica; per questa ragione manca di una nitida omogeneità delle tracce che lo costituiscono. Il mio lavoro con J Daw nasce da un amore a primo ascolto, che mi ha dato la motivazione e la possibilità di articolare le mie liriche in tempi brevissimi; donando al prodotto finale una consistenza meticolosa. “
Come è stato produrlo? E quali difficoltà avete incontrato nel farlo? Sia dal punto di visto umano, creativo e logistico; sicuramente questo non è stato uno degli anni più semplici.
“ J Daw ed io abbiamo avuto una particolare affinità fin dall’inizio; dato che condividiamo i soliti gusti musicali, siamo entrambi parecchio produttivi ed abbiamo intenzioni molto definite riguardo i nostri progetti.
Questo insieme di fattori ha reso la nostra collaborazione, a dire la verità, molto lineare. Per di più, soprattutto nell’ultimo anno, ci siamo presi il tempo di conoscerci meglio e di consolidare un rapporto di amicizia al di là del lavoro in studio.
L’unica difficoltà, più che altro amarezza, che condivide chiunque lavori nel mondo dello spettacolo in questo periodo, é l’impossibilita di esibirsi dal vivo. Ma ciò ci da il tempo e la concentrazione per costruire delle basi solide per il nostro collettivo, ed essere pronti ad offrire uno show senza precedenti non appena ne avremo occasione. “
Sam mi dicevi che questa è la prima parte di un progetto più grosso; potete darci qualche informazione in più a riguardo? Mentre aspettiamo la prossima parte della storia.
” Da quando ci siamo incontrati, J Daw ed io ci siamo dati appuntamento settimanalmente; apparecchiando un tavolo di idee, liriche e beat che si allarga a vista d’occhio.
“Non Puoi Dirmi Di No” non é solo il nome di un EP, ma quello di un vero e proprio brand che ingloba collaborazioni con uno svariato numero di artisti; internazionali e non, e diversi stili e sonorità. Spoilerando di piu rovinerei la sorpresa, ma posso accertare che l’attesa per il prossimo capitolo non durerà molto. “
Sei in Olanda da tanti anni ormai, e nonostante questo continui a rappare in italiano, non che questo mi dispiaccia, ma c’è un motivo specifico?
” Vivere da più di 7 anni nella capitale olandese mi ha sicuramente dato la possibilità di perfezionare il mio inglese e raggiungere un discreto livello della lingua del posto. Comunicare in diverse lingue è di certo una soddisfazione personale, ma il rap è tutto un altro paio di maniche.
Per quanto mi alletti l’idea di espandermi a livello internazionale sento l’esigenza di scrivere liriche uniche. Ciò richiede una profonda conoscenza del lessico, assieme ad una meticolosa articolazione e padronanza della lingua, se effettivamente si vuole fare la differenza. Per queste ragioni per ora mi rivolgo al mercato italiano, però al tempo stesso amo mettermi in gioco e non escludo che un domani decida di lanciare un progetto in una seconda lingua. “

“Non puoi dirmi di no” is the new EP of Sam More and J Daw, released last November 17th. The collection of 6 tracks is the first part of a project created, in the last year, by the rapper Sam More and the producer J Daw.
Few months ago the EP was anticipated by the release of the track from which it takes its name: “Non puoi dirmi di no”, with its videoclip.

All tracks, except “Bitch Moves / Tagliagole“, were produced by J Daw. The Italian Dj, beatmaker and turntablist, who lives in Amsterdam, has stitched a sound strongly distinct from the rules of classic Hip Hop with his samples.
The project was also anticipated by another single, “Bitch Moves / Tagliagole”, with its videoclip. The video, through its images, scene after scene, transports us to the mood of the song.

Hi Sam. Your first official album, “Tra pazzia e ragione”, was a collection of songs composed even years apart. How is this new EP? How and why it was born?
” “Tra pazzia e ragione” it was an individual journey; that’s because the total involvement of the producers who joined the project was hindered by language barriers, as they are not Italian speakers. My collaboration with J Daw was instead enriched by an exchange of inputs and idea from both of us; we have created a sort of common vision, which we constantly solidify with each studio session, making sure that our music fully represents us when the work is done.
The time factor you mentioned is definitely a glaring difference between the two projects. “Tra pazzia e ragione” was supported by a process of personal growth and it was consolidation of my artistic identity; for this reason it lacks a clear homogeneity of the tracks that constitute it. My work with J Daw was born from a “love at first listening”, which gave me the possibility and the motivation to create my lyrics in a very short time. Thus, giving the final product a meticulous consistency. “
How it was to produce it? What difficulties did you encounter in doing so? Both from a human, creative and logistic point of view. Surely this has not been one of the simplest years.
” J Daw and I, we have had a particular affinity from the beginning; we share the same musical tastes, we are both very productive and we have very definite intentions regarding our projects. This combination of factors made our collaboration very linear. In addition to this, especially in the last year, we took the time to get to know each other better and to consolidate a friendship that goes beyond working in studio.
The only difficulty (or mostly bitterness), that anyone who works in the entertainment world shares in this period, is the impossibility of performing live; but this gives us the time and concentration to build a solid foundation for our collective, to be ready to offer a spectacular show as soon as we have the opportunity. “
Sam, you told me that this is the first part of a much bigger project; can you give us some information about it? While we wait for the next part of the story.
” Since we met, J Daw and I, we have made an appointment weekly; setting a table of ideas, lyrics and beats that expands visibly.
“Non dire di no” is not just the name of an EP, but a real brand that includes collaborations with a various number of international and not artists, with different styles and sounds. Saying more would spoil the surprise, but I can assure that the wait for the next chapter will not last long. “
You live in Netherlands, and despite this you continue to rap in Italian. Is there a specific reason?
” Living for more than 7 years in the Dutch capital has certainly given me the opportunity to improve my English and reach a decent level of the local language. Communicating in different languages is certainly a personal satisfaction, but rap is something else.
As much the idea of expanding internationally tempts me, I feel the need to write unique lyrics; this requires a thorough knowledge of the lexicon, together with a meticulous articulation of words and command of language, if you really want to make a difference. For these reasons for now I turn to the Italian market, even if at the same time I love to get involved and I do not exclude that one day I decide to launch a project in a second language. “
