Cosa ti ha fatto iniziare a dipingere?
Da che ho memoria ho sempre disegnato. Anche a scuola disegnavo per me e per gli altri ed è stato proprio in quegli anni (a cavallo tra 96 e 97) che la scintilla è scoccata.
È come se, d’improvviso, fossi stato tremendamente attratto dai muri… vedevo le tag, i throw up ed i pezzi in giro per la città, li studiavo, li assorbivo e man mano capivo che la mia strada era quella.
Prima di quegli anni la scena napoletana era nata e cresciuta grazie alla KTM, ma nella seconda metà degli anni novanta è letteralmente “esplosa” dando vita a tantissime crew e soprattutto ad un sacco di writer che ancora oggi sono attivi e sono un punto di riferimento per me e per chiunque altro voglia iniziare a dipingere oggi.
Dal momento in cui ho fatto il mio primo bozzetto, non sono più riuscito ad immaginare la mia vita senza il Writing.
What made you start painting?
For as long as I can remember I have always drawn. Even at school I drew for myself and for others, and it was in those years (between 1996 and 1997) that the spark struck.
It is as if, all of a sudden, I had been tremendously attracted to the walls… I saw the tags, the throw ups and the pieces around the city, I studied and absorbed them and gradually I understood that this was my path.
Before those years the Neapolitan scene was born and raised thanks to KTM, but in the second half of the nineties it literally exploded, giving life to many crews and above all to a lot of writers who are still active today and who are a point of reference for me and for anyone else who wants to start painting.
¿Qué te hizo iniciar a pintar?
Desde que tengo memoria siempre dibujé. Durante la escuela dibujaba, para mí y para otros, y fue en esos años (entre el 96 y 97) que nació la chispa.
Es como si, repentinamente, me sentía tremendamente atraído por los muros… veía las tags, los throw ups y los diseños por la ciudad, los estudiaba, los absorbía y poco a poco entendí que mi senda era esa.
Antes de aquellos años, la escena napolitana nació y fue desarrollada gracias a la KTM, pero en la segunda mitad de los noventa explotó, dando vida a diversas crew y sobre todo a muchísimos writters que aun hoy siguen activos y son puntos de referencia para mí y para cualquier otro que quiera empezar a pintar hoy.
Desde el momento que hice mi primer boceto, no he podido imaginar mi vida sin el Writing.
Cosa ti spinge a scrivere il tuo nome?
La mia tag nacque da sola, mi piacevano tremendamente le lettere e mi sembravano sottolineare la mia folgorazione per questo mondo. Un amore a prima vista, insomma.
È stata mia compagna fedele per tutti questi anni, permettendomi di esprimere tutti i miei stati d’animo e di andare oltre a tutti i limiti imposti da questa società, nonché di sfidare le mie stesse paure.
Qualche anno dopo scoprii di non essere l’unico con questa tag ma che, ovviamente, c’erano già alcuni “Crash” ben più affermati e blasonati; questo non mi ha mai fatto cambiare idea, anzi, mi ha sempre spinto a migliorare.
What makes you write your name?
My tag was born by itself; I loved the letters and they seemed to underline my shock for this world. In short, a love at first sight.
My tag has been my faithful companion for all these years, allowing me to express all my moods and to go beyond all the limits imposed by this society, as well as to challenge my own fears.
A few years later I discovered that I was not the only one with this tag but that, of course, there were already some much more established “Crash”; this has never made me change my mind, in the contrary, it has always pushed me to improve.
¿Qué te hace escrivir tu nombre?
Mi tag nació sola, me gustaban tremendamente las letras y me parecían subrayar mi pasión por este mundo. Un amor a primera vista, de hecho.
Fue mi fiel compañera por todos estos años, permitiéndome de expresar todos mis estados de ánimo y de llegar más allá de todos los límites impuestos por esta sociedad, así como también desafiar mis propios miedos.
Algunos años después descubrí que no era el único con esta tag, pero que, obviamente, había ya algunos “Crash” mucho más sonados y afirmados; esto nunca me hizo cambiar de idea, sino que, me ha siempre impulsado a mejorar.
Qual è la volta che hai rischiato di più?
Sicuramente i rischi maggiori li ho avuti in yard. Una volta, a pezzo chiuso, mi sono ritrovato la via d’uscita praticamente bloccata da 3 di loro.
Nonostante mi avessero praticamente preso, sono riuscito a divincolarmi finendo faccia a terra sui binari (insieme ad uno dei 3, che mi teneva ostinatamente per il braccio), ma sono riuscito a rialzarmi e scappare scansando, fortunatamente, i sassi che gli altri 2 avevano iniziato a lanciarmi subito dopo essergli sfuggito.
When you risked the most?
Certainly the greatest risks were in yard. Once, with the piece closed, I found my way out blocked by 3 railway policemen.
Despite having practically taken me, I managed to free myself ending up face down on the tracks (together with one of the 3, who stubbornly held me by the arm), and I managed to escape; luckily dodging the stones that the others 2 had started to throwing me immediately after escaping them.
¿Cuál ha sido la vez que has estado en mayor riezgo?
Seguramente los mayores riesgos los corrí siempre en el yard. Una vez, terminada la obra, me encontré con la vía de escape prácticamente bloqueada por 3 de ellos. A pesar de que prácticamente me habían cogido, logre liberarme estando de cara contra el suelo en los binarios (junto con uno de los 3, que me tenía obstinadamente por el brazo), pero logre ponerme de pie y escapar eludiendo, afortunadamente, las piedras que los otros 2 habían empezado a tirarme apenas comencé a correr.
Quale azione ti ha soddisfatto di più?
Ho sempre amato i treni. Dipingere un pannello è una sensazione totalmente diversa da ogni muro, anche da quello più rischioso. Ogni qual volta dipingo un treno entro in simbiosi con esso e con tutto quello che lo circonda.
L’attenzione ad ogni rumore, ad ogni movimento, l’odore dei binari, lo sporco dei carrelli e delle ruote, la necessità (alle volte) di nascondersi sotto il treno, sono tutte sensazioni che amplificano a dismisura il piacere di dipingere.
Ogni pannello è indimenticabile ma, sicuramente, l’esperienza più gratificante è stato un whole car argento in metro. Ero con due borse piene di spray ed una piccola scala… talmente corta che per arrivare a dipingere fino al tetto mi sono dovuto aggrappare allo spigolo ed ho rischiato varie volte di cadere.
Vedere il whole car girare il giorno dopo è stata una delle soddisfazioni più grandi.
Which action satisfied you the most?
I’ve always loved trains. Painting a panel is a totally different feeling from any wall, even the riskiest one. Every time I paint a train I am in symbiosis with it and with everything that surrounds it.
The attention to every noise, every movement, the smell of the tracks, the dirt of the trolleys and wheels, the need (sometimes) to hide under the train… these are all sensations that amplify the pleasure of painting.
Each panel is unforgettable but, surely, the most rewarding experience was a whole train with silver in the subway. I was with two bags full of spray and a small scale…so short that to get to paint up to the roof I had cling to the edge, and I risked falling several times.
Seeing the whole car run the next day was one of the greatest satisfactions in my life.
¿Qué acción te ha satisfecho más?
Siempre he amado los trenes. Hacer un panel da una sensación completamente distinta de la de cualquier muro, aún de aquel más riesgoso. Cada vez que pinto un tren, entro en simbiosis con el mismo y con todo lo que lo rodea.
La atención a cada sonido, a cada movimiento, el olor de los binarios, la suciedad de los vagones y de las ruedas, la necesidad (algunas veces) de esconderse bajo el tren, son todas sensaciones que amplifican desmesuradamente el placer de pintar.
Cada panel es inolvidable, pero seguramente, mi experiencia más gratificante fue un whole car plateado en el metro. Estaba con dos bolsas llenas de spray y una pequeña escalera… tan pequeña que para llegar a pintar el techo, tuve que apoyarme en el borde, con muchas veces a poco de caerme.
Ver circular el whole car el día siguiente ha sido una de las satisfacciones más grandes.
Raccontaci un aneddoto dalla tua esperienze personale.
Quando iniziai a dipingere ebbi la fortuna di incontrare altre persone, nella mia stessa scuola, con la stessa passione. Sfogliavamo Aelle, ci scambiavamo bozzetti e, soprattutto, usciti da scuola andavamo (ogni sabato) sul lungo linea in cerca di muri.
Quelle persone sono poi le stesse della mia vecchia crew (TKL) e di cui sono sempre stato orgoglioso. Il Writing mi ha fatto conoscere una marea di amici, alcuni praticamente fratelli e non c’è cosa più bella di poter dipingere con la gente giusta al tuo fianco, perché capiscono fino in fondo questo movimento.
Ho avuto la fortuna di approcciarmi al Writing ancora in una forma molto primordiale, oggi (ahimé) è tutto diverso, molto meno profondo e fin troppo social.
Tell us an episode of your personal experience.
When I started to paint I was lucky enough to meet other people, in the same school as me, with the same passion. We leafed through Aelle, we exchanged sketches and, above all, after school we went along the long line in search of walls.
Those people are the same as my old crew (TKL), of which I’ve always been proud. Writing has introduced me to a lot of friends, some practically brothers, and there is nothing more beautiful than being able to paint with the right people by your side, because they fully understand this movement.
I was lucky enough to approach writing still in a very primordial form, today (unfortunately I think) everything is so much different, much less profound and too social.
Cuéntanos una anecdota, alguna experiencia personal tuya.
Cuando comencé a pintar tuve la fortuna de conocer otra gente de mi misma escuela, con la misma pasión. Leíamos Aelle, nos cambiábamos bocetos y, sobre todo, terminada la escuela íbamos (cada sábado) a lo largo de la línea en busca de muros.
Aquellas personas fueron después, las mismas de mi antigua crew (TKL) y de los cuales siempre he estado orgulloso. El Writing me dio muchísimos amigos, algunos prácticamente hermanos y no hay nada más bello que pintar con la gente justa a tu lado, porque entienden este movimiento hasta lo último.
Tuve la fortuna de conocer el Writing aún de una manera muy primordial, hoy (pobre de mí) es completamente diferente, mucho menos profundo y demasiado social.
